Robert Peek: Smoked Flowers.
At first glance these images look like watercolour paintings of botanical forms but they are in fact photographs of flowers draped in smoke and gentle light.
These are the images from Rotterdam based photographer Robert Peek. Having trained at The Royal College of Art, Peek uses materials and light to change the texture and mood of his images.
Typically focusing on subjects like isolation and loneliness, his images capture something that cannot be expressed in words alone.
The effect is achieved by submerging the flowers in water before adding white ink and using high speed shutter speeds to freeze time to give the impression of smoke gentle caressing the petals, emphasising the fragile nature of the organic form.
